Are you ready to embark on a thrilling journey in the heart of maritime innovation? Norsepower, a pioneer in sustainable shipping solutions, is bringing sails back to shipping – and saving the planet at the same time. We are now seeking a dynamic and talented Automation Engineer to join our team.
Norsepower Rotor Sail™ harnesses the wind to maximize fuel efficiency and reduce emissions of ships. It is the first commercially available mechanical sail for large vessels. It has a proven track record of successful operation since 2014. Norsepower’s project services cover all phases from sales to project delivery and operational support. Each project is planned according to the client’s needs and preferences.
In this role, you will be part of a motivated department consisting of automation, software, data, and electrical professionals. As an Automation Engineer, your responsibilities include PLC development and supporting delivery projects.
On a practical level, you will design project-specific additional automation features, and create interface implementations, ensuring testing and functionality during Rotor Sail™ installation. On the maintenance side, you’ll provide remote support, conduct troubleshooting, and participate in rotating on-call duties. You will also engage in hands-on tasks, particularly during business trips, you are going to participate in system-level testing and integration to third-party devices. Additionally, you’ll be involved in diverse development projects to ensure that our Rotor Sails™ remain top-notch. At Norsepower we use Bahmann and BR Automation PLCs. Most used protocols are Modbus TCP and OPC UA.
To succeed in this position, we expect you to have a proven track record of PLC programming. We assume you to have strong communication skills, as you’ll be working alongside various stakeholders. We also hope you’ll be proactive and bring forth your own ideas, as you’ll have genuine opportunities to affect your work. Being consistently eager to learn, developing oneself, and thriving in a fast-growing company are key attributes. Our office is located in Ruoholahti, and we work in a flexible hybrid model. Requirements
– Relevant technical education background (B.Sc/M.Sc)
– At least 3 years of similar working experience
– Experience working with IEC 61131-3 standard programming languages, preferably Structured Text
– Understanding of electrical schematics
– Readiness to travel (50-70 days/year)
– Full working proficiency in English
Bonus skills
– C/C++ or Python programming
– Experience in the marine industry
